Hello Everyone!!! After a suffering from a brief illness, I am back with more fabulous and fashionable things to share with you. In coming weeks I will be covering everything from getting your closet "Springtime" ready, looks for less, makeup tutorials, as well as the hot new Pantone color for 2014. Plus my personal looks and more!!! Stay tuned!!!
So this is it!!! Saturday night was the big night. The long anticipated feature fashion show. Though there were a few other shows that were going on that weekend, the Saturday night show which was held at The Union Station downtown, offered viewers a real treat. Special guest designer Laura Kathleen from Project Runway All-Stars showed everyone just why she is an all star designer with her fabulous self-titled collection. Anyone from the area knows that The Union Station is a Kansas City landmark rich in fascinating history, and is still beautiful after 100 years. During KCFW it is transformed into a runway show that could rival other shows in places like Milan, and Paris. Just like last year, this show did not disappoint as models strutted down the runway showcasing this season's unique looks. Exterior of The Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri. Since 1914 Union Station serves as Kansas City's premier passenger railway station, and is now home to numerous, museum exhibits, Science City and now Kansas City Fashion Week. When it comes to opulence, fine details, and grandeur Union Station has it all. It's no wonder why this elaborate grand hall area makes for a prime location to host a fashion show. It's beauty gets me every time I visit fashion show or no fashion show. Architexture by John & Christina Moncke. What I love about these designs is that they are crisp, innovative, and definitely represents the woman of today. Vera Wang I love you, but you may have some fierce some fierce competition!!! If your looking to bring out your more edgier side then House of Cochon is right for you. For me this mix of dark, abstract designing was art in motion. House of Cochon I really do love Project Runway, so I was really excited in seeing the collection by Laura Kathleen from the All-Stars edition of the series. I especially loved this basic peplum dress which is perfect for an after five event or dinner date. I left the show even more elated than last year especially since this time around I was attending as first time blogger. Despite some technical difficulties, getting lost once, and a minor wardrobe incident I still enjoyed everything I was able to partake in during KCFW, and look forward to what's in store this coming fall. In the mean time, and in between times I'm signing out for now. Stay fabulous!!! Union Station photos source - Skift,Rafat Ali. Renee's Closet © 2014 On day two of my coverage of Kansas City Fashion Week, I attended the Designer Trunk Show and Presentation which was held at the AIA Office Event Space in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri this past Friday night. Still in complete awe from the previous night, I was more than eager to see this special presentation. Even more exciting was the fact that my favorite instructor from the Art Institute, Christina Moncke, was presenting her line called Architexture in KCFW. If there was one good way for me to describe what it was like at the trunk show well.....Imagine being at the mall during Black Friday minus the obnoxious attitudes, and everyone was dressed rather chicly while looking through racks of the latest in what fashion has to offer. It was literally one of those "pinch me is this real" moments as I shook hands and hugged people I have never met before while they explained to me the concepts of their current collections. The coolest part about the Trunk Show was that not only could you get a sneak peak of their newest collections before the fashion shows, but you could also purchase items from the previous season. Of course being a natural born shopaholic I had to exercise a level of restraint to keep myself from buying out the whole place. However I did get plenty of satisfaction from browsing through the racks, and snapping photos of these lovely garments. I had the pleasure of meeting another fellow makeup artist named Kandi Elise Tyner of Eye Kandi Kosmetics as she gave a demonstration of how to do a sexy smoky eye. This was the end result of that demonstration. Anyone who know me is well aware that when it comes to makeup, I am all about playing up the eyes. This particular look is very versatile going from 9-5 to after 5. After meeting everyone, and taking in all of fabulous designs it was time to call it a night. Just when I thought KCFW couldn't get any better, the Trunk Show proved me wrong. Now I was really ready for Saturday night's fashion show. Hang with me, I'm not done yet!!! When you scurried out of bed at the first sight of daylight to make a mad dash to the Christmas tree, and all those cool presents underneath? Well that is the exact feeling I get during fashion week. This is my second year attending Kansas City Fashion Week only this time I was able to partake in the festivities of the pre-fashion show events. My best friend Lauren and I attended the official Kick-Off Party which was held at Standard Style Boutique on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. Open to the public, the Kick-Off Party was a wonderful way of drawing publicity to KCFW while at the same time giving people a reason to have a good time and shop! This was my first time visiting Standard Style, and I was immediately intrigued by the turnout for the party as well as the overall atmosphere. Being surrounded by gorgeous people in gorgeous attire, and a myriad of the latest in casual fashion was at first a bit overwhelming for my friend and I. However as soon as we were settled, and rifled through the racks, all of the nervous anxiety quickly subsided. The staff was very friendly, especially when pointing out some of the awesome sales. This place literally had me at hello when it came to accessories (which is my weakness). Even my BFF Lauren found a few killer looks for herself. Of course a party isn't a party without refreshing cocktails provided by Kansas Clean Distilled Whiskey, and a DJ spinning the beats that had us all moving. Though it only lasted for three hours, the Kick-Off Party definitely left an air of excitement and anticipation for what already is playing out to be a magnificent fashion week in Kansas City. Stay tuned it's only just begun!!! Photos taken by Mekaile Renee' Turner Permissions by - Kansas City Fashion Week, LLC © 2014 M. Renee's Closet © 2014 Welcome to my very first blog!!! I am very excited to be embarking on a new adventure, and can't wait to take you along with me. My intention for this is to share my love for fashion, style, and beauty to everyone and of course have fun. Feel free to leave comments, questions or share ideas as well!!!
