This past October I had the privilege of attending one of my favorite local fashion events of all time which is Kansas City Fashion Week. As usual CEO Phil Willoughby and President Teisha Barber along with their amazing team put together an impressive showcase. This marking my fourth years attending this fantastic event; I have seen my fair share of incredible designs from some of the best designers the Midwest and beyond has to offer. This season was no exception. Not just because of the designs alone, but the emotions provoked with each look sent down the runway. As a designer myself, I have always felt that when it comes to creating a look it takes more than just fabric and an idea. There is also a certain level of emotional inspiration added to each look in order for it to come alive. These are just a few of those looks from the Spring/Summer 2018 Collections.
House of Pamela Renee
Pamela Lucas is a sewing and fashion design instructor for both Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts as well as Rightfully Sewn in Kansas City, MO. When she isn’t molding young minds into the next generation of future fashion experts, she herself is creating looks for her label House of Pamela Renee. Her S/S 18 Collection could only be defined by one word, romantic.
Yoro Creations
What I loved about the jewelry designs from Yoro Creations was the morphing of classic beading into bold statement pieces which could be easily paired with any basic attire or mixed with a splash of color.
HER by Georgina Herrera MCK Brands
Earlier this year I had the pleasure of meeting jewelry designer Georgina Luckie of HER by Georgina Herrera MCK Brands, and I can honestly say that her designs are a spit and image of her personality. Warm, bold, and beautifully unique.
Travis Cal
There is absolutely nothing I love more than events where dressing up in evening attire is almost mandatory. I’ve always believed that if you’re going to show up to one of these events, show up in an outfit that is sure to make all heads turn.
Kendra J. Bridal
I have had a few friends recently get married, and the one thing that they can tell you is that one of the most stressful aspects of planning a wedding is finding that perfect dress. I’m pretty sure that clients of Kendra J. Bridal are always at ease when wearing one of her beautiful gowns down the aisle.
Joshua Christensen
Of course animal prints, and animal inspired designs on the runways are nothing new. However, designer Joshua Christensen managed to take that common concept, and propel it to a dimension of creativity that I have NEVER seen before. In fact, if Betsey Johnson and Jean Paul Gaultier were in the audience viewing this collection, they would have kicked themselves that they didn’t think of this first.
J. Manning
Jamesia Manning is another wonderful local designer that I have had the privilege to meet. Her clothing line J. Manning combines soft and neutral color pallets along with structured tailoring.
Lucia's Sarto by Nataliya Meyer
When asked on several occasions who would be my hands down favorite KCFW designer, and the answer is always the same. Lucia's Sarto by Nataliya Meyer. She too is another sweet and bright personality that transcends into her clothing as seen in her Chief's Style Lounge and Grand Finale Night Collections.
BONUS DESIGNER!!!
In closing there is one more designer that was not on this season's KCFW roster, but was able to show off some of her amazing looks. That designer was me! These are a few custom looks from my JULIA by M. Renee' Kansas City (coming soon!!!) label. In all honesty, I was a bit nervous making my debut in this way. However, the feedback was so overwhelmingly positive! Until next we meet, Stay Fabulous!
