Good Tuesday to you lovelies, and welcome to this special post Oscar style report. Now anyone who knows me are well aware that I am not really into movies...at all. However that doesn't stop me from checking out the Oscars as well as the impeccable fashions worn by today's A-Listers. Any designer, both new and seasoned, will tell you that the Oscars is the S.A.T's in the fashion world. Having one of your designs chosen by an A-Lister is only the entryway to stardom, but it's also the critiques that could mean the difference between becoming an overnight sensation or the following morning's punchline. This being my first time giving a post award critique I present to you my top seven best looks of the evening, as well as those that could have been a lot better or just completely missed the mark.
My 7 Best Dressed List
7. Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen
If it wasn't for one of my good friends pointing her out to me, this look would have never made it on the list. Wearing a ball gown to any event is like baking a molten lava cake. One slight mistake can end in a disastrous result. This was not the case for Felicity Jones. The cut, the color and the embellishments were a perfect match on her. I would call it Cinderella 2015.

6. Zoe Saldana in Atelier Versace
What can one say about a woman who could look this good after having a baby? Yeah, I know right! What makes is even more amazing is the way this creation by Versace Atelier drapes her frame. The bodice detail, flowing layers and color were spot on. Not to mention that hair!

5. Kerry Washington in Miu Miu
Not going to lie here, I'm not really into Scandal. However I do enjoy swooning over Olivia Pope's effortless style. Kerry Washington appeared to be channeling Olivia in her own way with this Miu Miu ensemble. Some of the critiques that I have read dinged her for not having the same texture top to bottom, but matching textures are now a thing of the past along with matching the color of your shoes and purse. Kerry's look only proves that with a little careful coordination, you can take two separate textures and combine them into one cohesive look.

4. Melanie Griffith in Saint Laurent
I had to put Melanie on this list, because not mentioning the fact that she is 58 years young rocking a chic, curve hugging Saint Laurent dress on a body that is to DIE for would be...well...just wrong!

3. Jennifer Lopez in Eli Saab Couture
Whoever is responsible for dressing J-Lo should win an award for best stylist ever, because no matter what, she always looks breathtaking. I simply adore Eli Saab and his work. This couture gown embodies everything elegant about J-Lo. The bronze color with the subtle sparkles complemented her flawless glowing skin. A sleek ponytail and natural makeup made the look even more divine. Very indicative to J-Lo's style profile.

2. Lupita Nyong'o in Calvin Klein
Last year I was completely blown away by her light and flowy baby blue dress worthy to be worn by the most graceful of dancers. Immediately everyone, including myself, could see that Lupita would be the one to watch out for as a new style icon. And you know what? She proved us right with a Calvin Klein number that honestly made me look at the brand in a whole new light. Hand sewn pearls and a sleek silhouette that looks great from all angles. This dress is a perfect ten.

And now for my number 1 Best Dressed pick.....drum-roll....
1. Lady Gaga in Alaia
Wow!!! I mean really, wow!!! I had to keep checking my glasses to make sure I was seeing things correctly. Now normally I'm not a fan of overly outrageous getups, because I have always felt that your talent should be your "wow" factor. usually Lady Gaga would show up in frocks a step below an eyesore. Not this time. I love how this Alaia creation exudes the class and elegance of the brand. While being just edgy enough with the structured sleeves and red rubber gloves to give Lady Gaga a signature stand out style.

My 7 Worst Dressed
In fashion, as in life, there is the good as well as the bad. Now not all of my chosen looks are completely without hope, but scored just low enough for me to make this list.
7. Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent
Earlier I commented on how fabulous her mother looked in a curve hugging ensemble by Saint Laurent. However Dakota's look wasn't as great. She has more of a straight body shape which needs a dress that will help give off the illusion of curves which this one didn't. The neckline looked uneven in a thrown together way, plus her incredibly nasty attitude towards her mother on live TV didn't make her look any better.

6. Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford
Ok, so before I go any further with my critique, I would like to go on the record by saying the dress Reese wore was in fact outstanding. However there were a few missteps with the look that did put her on this list for me, BUT at the lower end of the scale since it wasn't all that bad. Reese has a prominent inverted triangle body shape (wider top frame, slender bottom frame.) With that being said, a straight off-the-shoulder neckline only added attention as well as widening her already wider top frame. A V-neck halter would have created a balance between her top and bottom half giving her more of an hourglass figure. Not to mention the dark earth tone eye makeup made her appear older and tired.

5. Scarlett Johansson in Versace
Now here is another look that would have been on point had it not been for one little flaw, and that was the necklace. The lovely green Versace gown Scarlett wore complemented her skin tone and frame quite nicely. However when the corresponding necklace that practically took over her entire neck and décolletage area was added, it made her whole overall appearance look awkward and weird.

4. Julianne Moore in Chanel
Julianne Moore mentioned in a brief interview on the red carpet that her dress was custom made for her by creative director and designer for Chanel Karl Lagerfeld himself. Again, you never want to pair a straight style with a straight body frame else it will appear boxy and lifeless. Add to that where the floral waistline hits right at the hips elongating her torso where it shouldn't. Plus the plastic-like material reminded me of the bad retro holiday decorations my grandmother used to have on her tree. Now I am a huge fan of Karl and the direction he has taken the brand in, but this number was a total mess.

3. Patricia Arquette in Rosetta Getty
Let's see. Way too much bulk going on at the bodice. Not enough action happening at the skirt. The side zipper appeared bulky and looked crazy. Not to mention absolutely no effort made on her hair at all. Loved the speech by the way.

2. Naomi Watts in Armani Prive'
She was a brick house, and not in a good way. Although the cut of the dress was gorgeous from the waist down, I didn't understand the black band in the back, the skimpy straight bodice nor the brick-like patterns throughout the dress.

And leading the pack for my list of Worst Dressed....
1. Laura Dern in Alberta Ferretti
Pop quiz, What do you get when you combine knight armor, rivet-like embellishments, the Roman Empire and Xena Warrior Princess? You get this mistake by Alberta Ferretti which wouldn't look good on anyone. One last question Laura, why?

So there you have it. My take on some of the Best and Worst Dressed celebs at the Oscars 2015. Some of you may or may not agree with my choices or feel that there are individuals who should have been on the lists. However the feeling, there is one thing we can agree on, and that is Neil Patrick Harris stepping out on stage in his tighty whities was hilarious! It just goes to show that you never know what to expect at an award show. Well that is it for now. I look forward to seeing you guys again for the next edition of M. Renee's Closet. Until then stay fabulous!!!
