Friday night KCFW showcases are the second most sought after show next to the Saturday night finale. Nothing builds excitement for a grand finish like designs that are sure to make for a grand entrance.

I had the privilege of meeting Pamela Lucas a few years back, and she is truly a humble and beautiful person. To me her suit style garments gives off a fresh modern jazz in the city vibe that is not only sleek, but sensual as well.

Sometimes working with neutrals can be a bit tricky. Especially when incorporated in special occasion wear. Most fall short of matronly. But that was not the case with this collection by Truly Alvarenga. There were two women seated next to me, (Sadly I didn’t catch their names), who were new in town. This was their first KCFW, and all three of us were personally taking inventory of what we would love to have from this collection. All three of us REALLY want the brown and black stripped gown!!!

This collection was hands down one of the most cleverly put together I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t caught on by now, the theme was zodiac signs. Check out the Archer. This Sagittarian is very pleased. I low-key want that bow and arrow lol!!!

I’ve always stated that Chanel was a favorite classic designer of mine, but my all-time favorite is Bob Mackie. Bob Mackie is known for the flashiest and spectacular designs ever made. When talking about fashion with my grandmother, I’m always expressing how wonderful it would be if designers today would create looks reminiscent of the wow factor of Mackie from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. My wish appeared to come true when I first saw Laura Citron’s collection that Friday night. The entire spirit of those eras glitz and glamour came to life on the runway. I’m sure by now it’s no secret to everyone that fringe shimmy jacket with pink dress is my absolute favorite!
As my time for this season’s KCFW drew to a close I got to thinking about all the seasons I’ve been blessed to take part in. My journey began back in the fall of 2013 when an instructor of mine was telling our class about KCFW, and her participation as a designer herself. At that time I had already given blogging a shot, but was unsuccessful the first go round not knowing what exactly to write about. Seeing how well-organized the showcases was, and how passionate the KCFW team was about shining a spotlight on our city’s most talented designers reminded me what it was I loved most about Kansas City. Quite frankly M. Renee’s Closet wouldn’t be if it weren’t for KCFW. Phil Willoughby and Teisha Barber have really worked hard to make KCFW what it is today. And I feel extremely blessed to have witnessed its growth. HAPPY SWEET SIXTEEN KANSAS CITY FASHION WEEK!!! Here’s to many more!!! To KCFW, and all reading this blog Stay Fabulous!!!
