After taking some time off from blogging, and fashion shows I was feeling a tad bit nervous walking into the Power & Light Building for the first night of Kansas City Fashion Week this past March. Somehow coming back from a break from anything makes one feel as if they're brand new at what they do. Yet, the people at Kansas City Fashion Week are always so welcoming. That plus seeing the hard work of the local designers coming down the runway really makes for a wonderful experience.
The designers' showcase from opening night really captured the feeling of fall using simple, clean lines, neutral/bold color combos that didn't overwhelm, and a little touch of elegant glamour for those very special evenings out which is something that I most definitely relate to. You know a showcase is a huge success when you're hearing guests repeating "I want that!" with every look going don the runway. Ok, Ok I was one of them lol!!!
I first learned of Sew UnRelaxed at a Wine and Jazz Fashion Show at Arts Tech a few years back, and loved her mix of African inspired influences, and use of striking colors and patterns.
If you are familiar with Pantone, the company responsible for color matching in industries such as paints and fabrics, you'll know they are also responsible for setting the overall themes which designers make their creations. Mainly in large part by declaring what is known as Color of the Year. For 2019 that would be Living Coral: bright and vibrant with just a hint of tropic. Shelby Harvey managed to take this vibrant, tropical color, and transition it into a light and airy early fall look.
Each season KCFW sponsor Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, KS features looks from one of their fine stores. For opening night Eddie Bauer featured clean, minimalism with basic colors, and easy mix n' match pieces. I've always been a firm believer in separates that you can easily dress up or dress down. You can always pull countless looks from just a few pieces. Paired with the right accessories, the sky's the limit.
So after a fun-filled fall day of PSL, candle shopping or a nice stroll through a park full of color changing trees you're ready for a night out on the town. I always say "Show up and show out or don't show up at all" when it comes to night life attire, and I just adore Hailey's use of stand out metallics in her collection.
I am especially proud of this last look for KCFW F/W 2019, because it shows the best of what my alma mater Kansas State University has to offer! Hints of royal purple and gold ruled this KSU Junior's collection, and all I can say is EMAW!!! My fellow K-Staters will know what I'm talking about (Every Man A Wildcat).
But wait! There's more! Stay tuned for Part 2 of KCFW F/W 2019 coverage tomorrow, and as always Stay Fabulous!!!
